Yes We Can

It's down to it.

This will in all likelihood be the last Neddie Jingo post before the election.

The last before I can wake up in the morning knowing I helped, in whatever small way I could, to push that huge stone up that hill. It's been said that an Obama victory would be the final outcome of a battle for America's soul that began with the Civil War. I would argue the battle began even before that, when the first African slaves stepped off their boats in chains.

Yes, it is that historic.

And Yes. We. Can.

I completely agree. The outcome of this election can be viewed as a form of absolution for America's Original Sin. It's pleasing to think of the people now gone who would be made glad by this moment. Ol' Bill Faulkner would be one. I'd like to be sipping a julep with Bill, watching these returns

Good luck down there, vote early and vote often!
We all have our fingers crossed up here. It's actually pretty amazing, I've yet to come across a single Canadian personally or in the media who isn't supporting Obama. Here's to a landslide.

I had the updated voting map running on my computer all day as I worked.

Heh, as I watched the states fall I thought "Thank you Neddie, Thank you XTCFan, Thank you Bobby, Thank you Viscount!"

And let's not forget Betty: buy her a pony!

HFR - you won't be thanking us if all the Conservative Republicans make good on their threats of moving to Australia. Then we'll be thanking you!

Viscount - We're heading into a worrying New Puritianism down here, where the right and left are both courting the Religious Vote, singing the praisies of Families First, preaching Temperance (seriously), and, as such, are almost indistinguishable from one another in their policies.

Basically, we're already here. If they do move down here, they'll be right at home. It's what we deserve for profiting on Uranium all these years.

Not sure anyone deserves them.

schadenfreude

"A call last week by a Quebec radio prankster pretending to be French President Nicolas Sarkozy reportedly became a fiery source of tension between the already feuding McCain and Palin camps. An aide to the Alaska governor, Steve Biegun, OK'd the call without discussing it with McCain's people or the U.S. State Department.

"The Los Angeles Times reported that an outraged Steve Schmidt, Mr. McCain's top strategist, organized a conference call after the prank — which revealed Ms. Palin to be ill-informed and naive — made international headlines and brought further ridicule to the campaign."

I mean, think about it: Phone rings, a flunky picks it up, somebody sez "President of France is on the line." Do you,

1) Check with the campaign to make sure you don't say something that's out of line with putative new-administration policy, or,

2) Grab the phone and yack it up with somebody claiming to be the President of France, don't pick up on the prank-call vibe at all, and make a huge, international ASS of yourself and the campaign?

Country First!

Please, please, PLEASE: Sarah Palin 2012! Pretty please?
