Yes, Sir, That's Our Senator

Via Digby, extensively quoting Ezra on a profile by Ryan Lizza in The New Republic, Virginia Sen. George Allen: racist, sadistic, abusive asshole. "George saw himself as disconnected from the culture in which he lived. He hated California and, while there, became obsessed with the supposed authenticity of rural life"....

(Ouch. Close to the bone, there.)

Just read Digby's post and the exerpts regarding Allen. Neddie, dear, relax. Allen is, if his poor sister is to be believed -- and the people who knew him in California when he was nurturing his obsession with the Confederate South -- indeed a psychotic, sadistic, racist, abusive excuse for a human being. Perfect presidential material, these days. Sigh.
You, on the other hand, may be a bit cracked, but you don't have a mean bone in your body. There's just too much joy in you. And while you may share Allen's fondness for the "authenticity of rural life," any similarity ends there.
You just go ahead and plant those gardens, enjoy your hikes around the countryside and chop some wood. Presidential material you may not be, but your words and actions don't produce shudders of disgust and fear.
Not so close to the bone after all.

Would this country choose Allen as the next President?

Would we really go from 8 years of The Decider -- "nucular" and "It's hard to put food on your family" to...

"It's fourth and goal and I must make the tough decisions." Or "That bill will never get sacked as long I'm calling the plays."

Ahhhhh! Nooooo!
